It has been officially announced that Manchester United and Portugal winger, Cristiano Ronaldo, is the new winner of the Ballon D’ or (world player of the year). This is not surprising considering Ronaldo had 42 goals in his 49 appearances for Manchester United, eight goals in the euro 08 qualifying and one in the euro 08 tournament after qualifying. He had a terrific season.
Lionel Messi won second place and Fernando Torres won a close third.
I personally feel Torres’ results and statistics are much better than Messi’s, but Messi might have more individual skill

Cristiano Ronaldo gets Real off to flying start in Champions League By: ThinkSpain , Wednesday, September 16, 2009
Real Madrid, one of the favourites for the Champions League title this year, have got their campaign off to a flying start with a comfortable 5-2 victory over FC Zurich.
Cristiano Ronaldo was on fine form, opening the scoring with a trademark free kick. With a goal apiece, Raúl and Higuain put the visitors well in control before the half-time whistle went.
When Zurich's Silvan Aegerter scored his team's second minutes after team-mate Xavier Margairaz had put away a penalty, it looked like a comeback was on the cards for the home team.
But Ronaldo made the most of some sloppy goalkeeping in the dying minutes to put the match out of the reach of the Swiss team, and Guti sealed the victory in injury time netting Real's 5th.
Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Chelsea also took maximum points from their respective matches this evening.
